How Are You Spending Your Allotted Existence?  Soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, midi percussion (gongs, cymbals, bells), synths.  Written and performed by Collin Sherman, May 30-31, 2026.  Video below.

Experimenting with spectral composition a bit on this one. I used a computer to analyze the harmonics above the fundamental on two recorded notes, and used the corresponding notes for the harmonies. First section uses the harmonics of a concert G tubular bell, while the second second used the harmonics of a bowed gong. The result is some harmonies a bit different than I might otherwise use.

Metal and Wood.  Soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, midi gongs and bells, synths.  Written and performed by Collin Sherman, May 24, 2026.  Video below.

This piece is a sort of free-form collage of midi percussion (gongs and bells), along with the bass clarinet and soprano sax.  I also used a software synth that accepts samples and deconstructs the "grains" to create a playable instrument.  One synth engine is based on two gong samples.  The other is based upon one analog synth sample and one clarinet sample.  The gong sample synth, especially, creates some horrid, abrasive, beautiful, forceful tones.
